Problem with SQL Service Pack 4

I upgraded from SQL 2000 Service Pack 3 to SQL 2000 Service Pack 4. The
install says it completed but after I rebooted and did a select @.@.version it
still shows SP3. I only have a default instance so I know that it installed
on the right instance. Could anyone help me out with this?You can review the setup log for any errors (file called sqlsp.log in the
windows directory). It is perfectly safe to run SP4 again to try and make it
stick (assuming you have the system database backups just in case you need
to regress)

Problem with SetReportDataSources method

Hi,

Thanks in Advacne,

I'm using Reporting Service 2000 Web Service SetReportDataSources method to associate Datasource with Report. But I'm getting error.

"The data source 'DS_Code_002' cannot be found in this report. --> The data source 'DS_Code_002' cannot be found in this report. "

I searched lot but i didn't get solution .Some posts telling like "this is a bug in RSWS". Please help me to resolve the issue.

Code:

DataSourceReference reference = new DataSourceReference();

reference.Reference = txtDSPath.Text;

DataSource[] dataSources = new DataSource[1];

DataSource ds = new DataSource();

ds.Item = (DataSourceDefinitionOrReference) reference;

ds.Name = "Dsname";

dataSources[0] = ds;

rs.SetReportDataSources(txtReportPath.Text, dataSources);

Thanks again,

Krishna kumar.M

Hi,

After the long try myself found the answer.

if datasource name is same like the hardcoded data source name in .rdl file it is working fine

So I chnage to code as follows now it is working fine. Otherwise you have to change the name in .rdl file manually.

Code

DataSourceReference dRef= new ReportingService.ReportingServiceWS.DataSourceReference( );

dRef.Reference = txtDSPath.Text;

DataSource []ds = rs.GetReportDataSources(txtReportPath.Text);

DataSource d = new ReportingService.ReportingServiceWS.DataSource();

d.Item = (RS.DataSourceDefinitionOrReference)dRef;

d.Name= ds[0].Name; // Get the new name store it in new object

ds[0] = d;

rs.SetReportDataSources(txtReportPath.Text,ds);

Problem with Service Principle Name after new install

Hi all,
I installed a SQL Server 2000 on a Win2003 machine, running the SQL Server
service under a domain user account.
When the SQL Server starts, I find a warning in the event log:
Source: MSSQLServer EventID: 19011
Description: SuperSocket info: (SpnRegister) : Error 8344.
After reading several KB articles I understand that the service account
tries to register the Service Principle Name on startup and fails because it
does not have the rights the register the SPN in Active Directory.
I put the account in the local admin group on the server and created a SPN
with setspn.exe from Win2000 resource kit, which points to at the domain
account. Does not fix the warning message.
I do not want to put the account into domain admin group, which would fix
the problem I think, because domain admins have all permissions to register
the SPN.
Does someone have a hint for me?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Christian
If your server should always work using same tcp port, you may ignore this
message.
If server works under LocalSystem or other account which has such
permissions (by default - only Domain Admins), he registers SPN at startup
and unregisters at shutdown. So in your case if you change tcp/ip settings
for server, you will have to reregister SPN manually. Or you may give such
rights to service account - see this article for permissions info:

at least you pointed us in the right direction.
I read the article, but again MS describes not which rights an account needs
in order to register the SPN at startup. All information you get is, that it
works with domain admin rights and with local system.
Nonetheless, the information, that a special function is executed in Active
Directory let us search through the Advanced Active Directory permission
settings and we found that giving the permission to "write public
information" to the SQL Service Account solves the problem.
This prevents us from assigning domain admin rights.
Strange, that Microsoft does not point out which specific permissions have
to be set for a normal user account, but in the other tells you to not use a
admin account.
Anyway this is solved for us.

Problem with service of the SQL server 2005

Hello, I have a problem: I accede to the SQL server 2005 having installed the SQL server locally but it does not allow me to initiate, to stop nor to reinitiate the service, that only happens to my user, however with another one if it allows. the network is with work group, that podria to be? thanks for its attentionYou need to log in to your computer as a member of the Windows Administrators group to start or stop the SQL Server service. When you are logged in as an administrator, you can use the SQL Server Configuration Manager tool to start and stop the service or change service startup properties.

Problem with Service Broker and DBMail

Hi!
I try to use Service Broker and DBMail together, but have some trouble with that.
I need to create the queue with activation.
And the stored procedure activated on this queue must send e-mail using DBmail.
It's looks simple, but it doesn't work.
There is my script to create objects, but don't forget create dbmail profile before use it.
PS And replace my email by yours

Activated procedures are under the EXECUTE AS context, so they cannot dirrectly invoke procedures in another database (e.g. msdb DBmail procs). The issue is covered on this serios of articles:
http://blogs.msdn.com/remusrusanu/archive/2006/01/12/512085.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/remusrusanu/archive/2006/03/01/541882.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/remusrusanu/archive/2006/03/07/545508.aspx

The easiest woraround is to mark the database where activation occurs as trustworthy:

ALTER DATABASE [<dbname>] SET TRUSTWORTHY ON;

Problem with Reporting service toolbox!

Hi All!!!!

When I create new reporting service I have problem with toolbox as follows:

Please help me to solved problem. Thanks

Hi,

From the image you provided, it seems that the report items in toolbox is mixed up.

Since we don't know if you have any modification on the toolbox (especially for the control assembly), I just provide you some steps to diagnose the problem.

1. Try to right click on the report items in your toolbox, and choose "Reset ToolBox" button, to see if it can fix the issue.
2. Try to right click on the report items in your toolbox, and click on 'choose items' to open the "Choose Toolbox items" window, switch to the .NET Framework components tab, try to check if there are so many textboxes control with different edition.
3. Go to %SystemRoot%/Assembly/ folder, try to find if the textbox controls exists normally.(Is any other extra textbox controls?)
4. After those steps, if the problem still exists, try to re-install your Business Intelligence Projects components.

Thanks.

Problem with Reporting Service SQL 2000 and Sybase

Hi,
The connection to Sybase with OLEDB and ODBC have the same problem when the
query have parameter. The query below don´t execute:
select prod_cod,cod_empresa from estatistica.dbo.zomba
where vida = @.vida
OLEDB error: "An error occurred while executing the query. The given type
name was unrecognized"
versions used: 02.70.0016 and 02.70.0042 (provided by Sybase support)
ODBC error: "Error [HY000][DataDirect][ODBC Sybase wire protocol driver][SQL
Server] must declare variable @.vida"
versions used: 04.10.0049 (provided by Sybase support)
Someone have the same problem?
Thanks,
LandryI work extensively with Sybase. The issue you are seeing is that query
variables for ODBC have to be a ? (unnamed parameter). I suggest you stick
with the ODBC driver. I have had issues with OLEDB.

Also, when are you getting this error? From the data tab clicking on the ! ?
Or from the preview?
Let's concentrate on ODBC. What error do you get with ODBC (it can't be the
same as before because at that point you had this error: must declare
variable @.vida).
I do all my queries from the generic query window. Try that (the button is
to the right of the ... to switch to generic query designer).
Also, what version of Sysbase. I am using 12.5.2 client and have used that
against both an 11.x (I don't remember the exact version) and 12.5.1
servers.

Thanks, the problem is ODBC version, now work fine with cliente version
12.5.3, the most recent.
The Sybase suport will analyze the OLEDB to correct the error.

Problem with report manager find command

I am using sql server reporting services with service pack 2 applied. One of
my users has encountered a strange problem using the find command after a
report has been run.
If you try to use the find command in the report manager to locate a string
that is in the last group on a page, it will report "The search text was not
found". The find command works fine for test in all other groups on the
report. If you export the report to pdf, the acrobat search function will
find the text. I have tested several of my reports they all seem to have the
same problem.
Has anyone else had this problem with the find command in the report
manager? Any idea how to fix it?Hi,
Welcome to use MSDN Managed Newsgroup Support.
To state the problem clearly, would you tell me how you are searching the
string in report manager?
Do you use the Ctrl-F to find a string in a report via browser? If so,
which browser and what version do you use?
The Search for Feature in the Report Manager Page can only search published
reports, folders, shared data sources, and resources.
Thank you for your patience and cooperations. Please let me know your
results with this so that I can provide further association. I look forward
your reply.

Here is the procedure I am using. First I am run the report in Internet
Explorer 6. I type the search string into the text box which appears between
the zoom factor (100%) and the word find. When I hover my mouse over the
text box a tool tip pops up and displays "find text". Finally, I click on
the word "Find".
Normally the report will jump to wherever the search string is first found
in the report, regardless of which page it appears on. As I stated earlier
if the search string appears in the last group on a page, for some reason it
will not be found.
I noticed today that the problem only seems to occur if the last group on
the page spans onto the next page. If the last group on the page finishes on
the page you can successfully find items in that group.

Thank you for update. I understood your concern is that you are trying to
search the string in a report with a html viewer and you can not find it if
the string in the last group. If I misunderstood your concern, please feel
free to point it out.
In the reporting service, this Search feature searches for content in the
report by typing a word or phrase that you want to find (the maximum value
length is 256 characters). The search is case-insensitive and begins at the
page or section that is currently selected. Only visible content is
included in a search operation. This search feature is based on javascript.
So I'd like to know if you use the Ctrl-F to search the string, will you
find it properly? Is this string visible or not?
Also you may want to insert a page break after the table to test.
Further, if you installed the Sample, you may check if the issue occurs on
¡"product catalog" sample report.
Thank you for your patience and cooperations. Please let me know your
results with this so that I can provide further association. I look forward
your reply.

Thanks for you efforts.
To answer your question, the text is visible. If I use Ctrl-F, it does find
the text as long as I am currently on the page where the text appears. In my
experience, the find/next commands in the report manager will find a string
on the current page as well as all other pages (both before and after the
current page) except in the circumstances described in my earlier posts.
The problem I am having does occur in the Product Catalog sample report.
For example on page five, the last line of the report has product no. of
"BK-M38S-56". The find command will not find this product no.. If I use
Ctrl-F it will find the product no., as long as I am on page 5. In fact I
can not use the find/next commands to locate any product no. in the
"Mountain-400" section on page 5.
The sample reports are on my local machine. The earlier reports I tested
were on our application server. I am curious to know if you experience the
same problem on page 5 of the product catalog.
I tried adding a page break after the table in the Product Catalog sample
report. It did not make any difference.

Problem with report DataSource

Hello,
I am deploying reports via the web service. I create a folder, then create
a data source. Once I create a report, I make a reference to the data source
created and change the reports invalid data source to the reference.
When I did this with a data source with credentials stored on the report
server, it worked with no problems. When I changed this to prompt for
crendentials, accessing the report via web services cannot find the data
source associated with the report (the one defined in the rdl does not exist
in the folder fyi). Is this because a reference has no name in the database?
It does work via the Report Manager.
Here are some code snippets:
this.ReportService.CreateReport(reportType.ToString(), "/" + dbName, true,
definition, null);
//change its datasource to the new one
DataSourceReference reference = new DataSourceReference();
reference.Reference = "/" + dbName + "/" + dbName;
DataSource[] dataSources = this.ReportService.GetReportDataSources("/" +
dbName + "/" + reportType.ToString() );
for(int i=0;i<dataSources.Length;i++)
{
if(dataSources[i].Item is InvalidDataSourceReference)
{
dataSources[i].Item = reference;
}
}
this.ReportService.SetReportDataSources("/" + dbName + "/" +
reportType.ToString() ,dataSources);
and for credentials:
DataSourceCredentials d = new DataSourceCredentials();
d.DataSourceName = dbName;
d.UserName = userName;
d.Password = password;
this.mDataSourceCredentials = new DataSourceCredentials[]{d};
any help would be greatly appreciated.It seems recently that my posts never get replied to - Im sure others must
share the same frustration. The solution I came up with was to read the .rdl
file in as xml, search for all data source nodes and replace the old name
(attribute) with the new name. I also created the data source as a data
source, not as a reference.

Problem with Prepared Statements

Hi
we are developing a java application, which connects to a MS SQL Server 2000
via the Microsoft JDBC Drive Service Pack 3.
Due to the fact that we have massiv performance problems with MS SQL. I
started profiling our MS SQL Server.
I've recognized during analyzing the traces, that the variables of every
prepared Sql command are defined as nvarchar(4000) or Decimal(38,0). Quite
confusing by the fact that the lenght of the fields is not exceeding 50
signs in the tables as well as in the variable used within our application.
I not understand the behaviour of the JDBC Driver. Is there a problem
defining the length of prepared parameters ?
Cause within ODBC i am able to define the length of input values in order to
reduce the amount of data being in access by the sql engine.
kind regards
chris

Hi. The declared length of the varchar variables are not crucial, but
if you have real VARCHAR columns, and the driver is sending data as
NVARCHARs, then your varchar indexes won't be used, so you will have
slow table scans. The solution for that is to set the JDBC connection
property SendStringParametersAsUnicode=false. The driver by default
sends data as 16-bit characters so any Java char is sent correctly.
As long as you are using standard English 8-bit ASCII characters,
you don't need to send as UNICODE.
Let me know if this takes care of the problem.
Joe
|||Hi Joe
setting the property SendStringParametersAsUnicode=false did not change the
performance.
What still is confusing are the Trace Results.
Executing a SQL Statement as prepared statement in a loop just changing the
binded values for 50 times,
is resulting for Java in a trace with 50 statements exec sp_cursoropen.
Doing the same in c# und using an OleDB Connection with the exact same SQL
and value is leading to a different Trace
which contains one statement with "exec sp_prepexec" and 49 statements of
"exec sp_execute".
May i'm doing something wrong ? Or is that really the right behaviour ? It
looks to me that in our java application the PrepareStatement is not really
executed.
bye
chris
|||Seems to be a problem of the JDBC Driver even prepare Insert and Update
statements are being executed as sp_executesql
where as using the jdbc 2005 beta 1 driver they are executed as sp_prepexec
and sp_execute.
Even Select statements which were executed as cursor-open, -fetch and -close
are now executed as sp_prepexec and sp_execute as long as the resultset is
text_forward_only.
Due to the fact that we need scrollable resultsets the former behaviour is
ok
During testing the JDBC 2005 Beta 1 we recognized a bug in this
constellation.The SQL Statement used for opening the cursor is not prepared
any longer although we are using the preparedstatement method. That causes
an immens memory usage until the SQL Server reachs the allowed maximum
memory usage and begins to use the swap file.
|||forgot the log
Both Statements were executed as PreparedStatement with an insensitive
Cursor ResultSet.
