Dimitri,
I suspect this is a localisation issue. Is your decimal symbol a comma by
any chance?
If you look at the Appendix C of the SQLH2 Deployment Guide (this should be
in your root installation directory), you will see some useful hints on how
to get SQLH2 working on localised Windows platforms.
Looking at your log, I would also advise that your dates are not in the
expected format for SQLH2, so you will need to use the /D switch (again
please see Appendix C).
Hope this helps,
John Marsh

Problem with sql2005-kb918222-x86-enu.exe (cumulative hotfix, build 2153)

Hello,

I do experiment a problem when trying to install the mentionned patch on my Windows XP SP2 machine (fully patched).

Interestingly, the patch works fine for the named instance, which is a "clean" install of SQL Server 2005 SP1, while it fails on the default instance, which is a SQL 2005 SP1 upgraded in place from SQL Server 2000 SP4. Both instances are Developer editions...

The error is along the following lines:

Any thoughts somebody?

Thanks in advance,

Emmanuel

Emmanuel, can you search your %windir%\hotfix\ folder for the text string "value 3" and include the 10 or so lines on each side. This should be in the sqlrun_sql.msp file and will help us troubleshoot.

Thanks,
Samuel Lester (MSFT)

|||

Hello,

thank you for your input. I could not locate the string "value 3" in the file you mentionned. So I put up my sleeves and decided to dig in this 12Mb+ file... Finally, I found a few interesting entries, and could narrow down my problem to security config: on my machine, the service was running as a normal, non-privileged user (i.e. not member of local admins), and to avoid anti-virus slow-down, I had special security placed on key files allowing access to only this very user. (No, I cannot exclude the files from within the anti-virus because of corporate policies).

I changed back, and the setup ran normally. Sorry for the trouble.

Oh Yes, the named instance is not used usually. Just there for having an installation try, and to be able to compare "clean" vs upgrade install. Therefore no special config on this instance ...

With kind regards,

Emmanuel

I have gotten this sometime when I use windows logins as the owner of a job.
I think it has something to do with our domain controller being unavailable

You did not say what version of XP you are running because you cannot install SQL Server 2005 Standard in XP Home, if you are running Media edition or Pro copy the content of the CDs/DVD into a folder in your C drive and run setup from your C drive. One more thing if you intend to install Reporting Services make sure IIS is running or the installer will skip it without telling you why. Hope this helps.

|||From the error message in the log, it appears that you have a setting on your machine which is preventing the systemstate backup to be rolled back. Check with your network administrator about disabling this setting.|||

I have Windows XP professional. IIS is running. Installation from C is also failed.

May be, I uninstalled incorrectly beta-version of Visual studio 2005 and/or SQL Server 2005.

I uninstalled all components and then cleaned register, but it didn't help.

Thanks.

Gato.

|||

Please comment what setting "is preventing the systemstate backup to be rolled back" , where and how can I check that?

I work without network administrator .

Thanks,

Gato.

Lets start with some WinXP system restore to the last available restore point and copy the files to the C and install from C drive. And I just noticed you are not running the standard setup, because I know the bootstrap setup runs for a short while and terminates. The 2005 installer is very easy I know because I had installed 2000 on all operating systems including 64bits except Vista and it was a pain but installing 2005 was a breeze. Keep me posted and pay attention to the installer don't answer questions not relevant to you.

Problem with Sql Server 2000 installation

Hi,
I'm not able to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 on a Pentium 4 2.40 GHz

The problem is:
I insert my SQL Server installation CD in the player. Main window opens up.
I click on "SQL Server 2000 Components", which brings me to the next window.
I click on "Install Database Server" and then window closes... and then
nothing! If I restart the installation, the same thing occurs.
Someone has an idea of what the problem might be?
Thanks!

How long do you wait after the click on Install? I seem to recall something
like this but if I waited long enough the next dialog window eventually came

Problem with SQL Server & MSDTC on Windows 2003 (dtctester.exe related)

Hi all
I am not sure if this is a Windows 2003 server problem or a SQL Server
problem so I am cross posting to both groups.
I have a new Dell server which is running Windows 2003 and is going to be a
development database server. I have SQL Server 2000 installed on it and i
can connect using the SQL client tools manipulate data on that server
without any problems.
The problem comes when I try and connect using an ODBC connection from
within an MTS/COM+ component. I get the following error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '8004d00a'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Distributed transaction error
While searching for a solution to this problem, I came across a Microsoft
utility (available from
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;EN-US;Q293799) which has
helped me narrow this problem down to it not being my COM+ component because
when I try and run this tool I get the following output:
Executed: dtctester
DSN: <My DSN Name>
User Name: sa
Password: <My sa Password>
tablename= #dtc32294
Creating Temp Table for Testing: #dtc32294
Warning: No Columns in Result Set From Executing: 'create table #dtc32294
(ival int)'
Initializing DTC
Beginning DTC Transaction
Enlisting Connection in Transaction
Error:

b. Bad WINS/DNS entries
-OR-
c. Misconfigured network
-OR-
d. Misconfigured SQL Server machine that has multiple netcards.
Aborting DTC Transaction
Releasing DTC Interface Pointers
Successfully Released pTransaction Pointer.
My feeling is that it is specific to Windows 2003 because I can perform
exactly the same test using dtctester.exe to our old SQL server from the
same client and using the same ODBC DSN (with the server name changed of
course) and everything works without problems.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give,
DaveAdditional Information which I forgot to add in the original post.
In response to the suggestions the dtctester app gives me:
a. Firewall Has Ports Closed
- There is no firewall in between the two machines
b. Bad WINS/DNS entries
- These are fine and checked
c. Misconfigured network
- I can communicate with the server over everything apart from DTC
transactions
d. Misconfigured SQL Server machine that has multiple netcards.
- This is too vague to really know what they mean but I have disabled every
other network card in the machine so there is only one active local
connection.

Thanks for your post. If I understand correctly you got the following error
message when you tried and connect using an ODBC connection form within an
MTS/COM+ component.
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '8004d00a'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Distributed transaction error
Based on my research, by default, network DTC access is disabled on the
Windows Server 2003 products. When you do not enable network DTC access on
the server, applications can only use transactions that stay on the local
computer. Please try the suggestions in the following article and do not
forget to restart your computer after enabling network DTC access.

would like further assistance on this issue.

I tried the dtctester application from the database server itself and it
worked so this is definately a remote access DTC issue.

Thanks for your feedback. Please check the following registry keys on your
windows 2003 server.
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC\Security\N
etworkDTCAccess
NetworkDTCAccessAdmin
NetworkDTCAccessTransactions
Please set them to 1 to enable these registry key and restarted MSDTC & SQL
Server.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC\Security\ key called NetworkDTCAccess (this
key/folder does not exist on my server) and then add 2 DWORD values under
there called NetworkDTCAccessAdmin and NetworkDTCAccessTransactions and set
them both to value 1?
I am asking because i am not sure if you meant for the NetworkDTCAccess key
to already exist and if that signifies a more significant problem than we
are dealing with here.

Thanks for your update. I apologize for my confusion. In left detail pane
of the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC\Security\ folder, you are able to see
3 DWORD values (NetworkDTCAccess, NetworkDTCAccessAdmin and
NetworkDTCAccessTransactions), which exist on my windows 2003 computer.
Please make sure the values of them are 1.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

problem with SQL Agent

OK this is a new error on me.
I have a SQL server 2000 on Windows Server 2003.
I have setup a Maint plan that backs up the user and system databases
and the transaction Logs on my user databases.
Does optimises and integrity checks on those databases as well.
I am not attempting to repair any minor problems.
I am not performing integrity checks before backing up the database
and transaction logs.
All of the databases that I am doing a transaction log backup on have
recovery mode of full.
When the jobs run they fail instantly with error code 22029.
Sqlmaint.exe failed to run. This was working up until the end of the
day on the Thursday before Good Friday. (last week) The transaction
log backup ran fine at 4:00 PM the same job failed at 8:00 PM. No
changes were made to the server during that time.
Another issue that started at the same time. I have a web page used to
grab data from a text file export and pull it into an AS400. I use
this server to house the DTS packages and stored procedures that the
process needs. I suddenly quit working when the jobs quit running.
We are in a mixed enviroment with most clients on AD and this server
and most others still in a NT 4 domain. We have been like this for at
least 3 months and everything has worked fine. I setup the various
users and systems the way the need to be to work.
Originally the SQL Agent was running as a generic NT 4 Domain user with
local administrator rights to the local box and server role of system
administrator. The MSSQLSERVER and DTC services were running as the
built in system account.
Everything was happy then it broke.
When I reboot the server the jobs and the website work fine. Then
after a period of time that I have not figured out yet, but more than
15 minutes and less than 2 hours. Everything quits working.
I have changed all the services to run as a domain admin with SQL
system adminsitrator server role. Still same thing.
I have changed all the services to run as the built in system account.
Still same thing.
I run the sqlmaint from command line with the switches that I am using
in the maint jobs and it runs fine.
I have run dbcc checkdb on all the databases and they are fine.
The DTS packages and the stored procedures used by the website run fine
from with in Query analyzer.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.A guess: Try disabling the IPSec service. I've seen some similar behavior
when this service was misconfigured.
Also I would make sure the system is configure to log all security failures
and take a good look at the Security event log for any additional clues.|||Kevin,
Thanks for the reply. I already had the security set to log failure
and it is showing nothing but success audits.
I stopped the IPSec service and I still couldn't run the job. Do i
need to restart the server after making that change?

Problem with SQL 2005 Beta 2 Reporting Services

I've just installed SQL 2005 Beta 2 onto a Windows Server 2003 SP1 box.
I've installed all the components, including Reporting Services.
When I try to connect to the web site I get the message
The request failed with HTTP status 407: Proxy Authentication Required.
Anonymous access to the web site is allowed.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Laurence

Hi Laurence,
Questions about RS2005 should probably go to the
microsoft.private.sqlserver2005.reportingsvcs. Despite the name it's a
public newsgroup intended for the RS2005 beta and CTPs.
Are you really using Beta 2 from June/July last year? Beta 2 has
functionality similar to RS2000 with little new.
If you are, then you should probably update BUT be sure to read
carefully CTPNotes.mht about uninstall order before upgrading.
The February CTP has new functionality and has fewer configuration
problems than earlier builds.

Problem with SQL 2000 Reporting Services in Windows Server 2000 IIS 5.0

Hi,

I′m having a problem with the SQL 2000 Reporting Services.
I′ve installed it in a windows 2000 server with IIS 5.0 and after i′ve installed the Reporting Services (even with the SP2 os Reporting Services installed), when i try to log on to the reports webside in order to start creating the folders of the reports that i want to create i get an error (ACCESS DENIED) and i′m trying to access it locally.

How can i solve this?

Regards,

Ricardo

Are you trying to open the website on the installed server or via another computer ?

HTH, Jens SUessmeyer.

|||Hi,

I′m trying to open the website on the instaled server. Even if i try to open it from a diferent computer, the error is the same.|||

Try using the rskeymgmt utility to backup the encryption key, and rsactivate utility to activate the site.

Check to see if the Default Application Pool in IIS is using the Network account identity.

Filemon from www.sysinternals.com may also help identify where the issue is.

cheers,

Andrew

|||Do you get an rsAccessDenied or the IIS Access Denied ?

Problem with SQL 2000 on Windows CLUSTERING

I am running SQL server 2000 on a two nodes clustering environment using Window 2003 on both machine.

SQL server went down on one node and it will not come backup... it takes forever...pending... and not started. I suspect there are some integrity data issue...

It then caused one of the node to be unavailable... on the resource... it sees the nic card is unavailable on that machine... however, when I ping the IP... I got reply.... I rebooted that machine, it still does not show available though the clustering adminstration console.

So any idea where I should start looking to fix this issue? should I evit the node? How can I check the NIC cards are available?

HELP? ANYWHERE TO START?

I believe clusters should all be supported by the supplier so you could raise a call with PSS and also with your supplier.
