problem with SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager display
I'm having problems when using SQL 2000 Enterprise manager and viewing
the Distribution Agents via Enterprise Manager. I have this SQL server setup
for replication with a local a distribution database. When I click on the
'Distribution Agents' folder, under 'Replication Monitor' I can't see the
agents. It doesn't matter which Enterprise Manager from what SQL server that
I use, I still can't see the distribution agents for this one server. So,
that leads me to think there is some configuration setting for that server
that is not allowing any Enterprise Mananger's replication monitor to view
those agents.
Is this correct?
If so, how do I fix it?
thanks,
Hi,
Does your replication works swimmingly as expected?
What kind of replication you are creating?
What's the startup account for your SQL Server Agent?
If you create another new transactional replication, is it possible for you
to reproduce this behavior?

|||Morning Michael,
Yes, replication works as it should. We are doing transactional replication
at the database level. SQL Server agent runs as a Domain account which also
runs the SQL Server service. Each and every new database replication has the
same problems with in the 'Distribution Agents' folder. Just to repeat my
self, this is the only folder that does not show the agents. All other
folders shows the differents agents.
So, any other thoughts as to why this one folder does not show it's agents?
thanks,
JD

Really strange issue since other folder displays correctly.
If you register the SQL Server in another machine, will it show the Agent
correctly?

|||Hello Michael,
No unfortuanly it doesn't. I can register that one server from any other
server but it still won't display that one folder. And it is only the one
folder that won't display.
Any thoughts? A possible registry entry that is messed up? A bit turned off
somewhere?
Thanks,
JD

Problem with Simple Query
I'm executing the following query on table OMS_SITEVISIT_ITEMLIST, and it just ain't working. I have tested this in Enterprise Manager.
SELECT *
FROM OMS_SITEVISIT_ITEMLIST
WHERE (eFolderID = 'LAPTOP$LAPTOP$00000956')
AND (InStock <> - 1)
I have 3 rows where eFolderID = 'LAPTOP$LAPTOP$00000956' and InStock is NULL. So in theory it should pull back 3 rows, but it doesn't pull any. It does pull back 3 rows if i remove the reference to InStock (which is of type SMALLINT, length 2), so it's the second part of the WHERE clause that's causing the problem.
Can anyone see where I might be going wrong?
Cheers
GregTry this lets see...
SELECT *
FROM OMS_SITEVISIT_ITEMLIST
WHERE (eFolderID = 'LAPTOP$LAPTOP$00000956')
AND isNull(InStock, Null) = Null|||I've come up with a workaround, and done away with the check on -1, but on 0 or NULL.
Thanks
Problem with ServiceBroker
I use 2 SQL Server: 1 – SQL Server 2005 Enterprise on Windows Server 2003 (Itanium) and SQL Server Express on Windows XP Professional (Pentium).
I send the message from enterprise to express the message (at once I shall tell, that sending of the message in the opposite direction gives the same result) and I process the message on express. At first sight like all is correct. Messages I receive all, I read also all of them are correct. But further there are two strange things for me.
In the table sys.conversation_endpoints there is a record (one, irrespective of how many messages in one conversation) with “state=CD”. I read that they should be deleted after 30 minutes, but they did not. Using command … WITH CLEANUP helps but in a parallel way in Service Broker Profiler I observe occurrence of a mistake which occurs after closing dialogue.
I am disturbed with this mistake and the most important is that I not understand why it arises.

Yours faithfully,
From what I understand, you are doing a BEGIN DIALOG, followed by two SENDs and then END DIALOG, all from the initiator side (the enterprise instance).
The target side (express) is just passively receiving the messages, reacting with an END CONVERSATION itself when the it receives the END CONVERSATION message from the initiator.
In general, this pattern of BEGIN DIALOG/SEND/END (aka 'fire and forget') is not advisable. If the messages cannot be delivered (e.g. the target denies access to the service), the initiator never knows about this, since he already ended the conversation. My recomendation is to have the target end the dialog first, after receiving the two messages, and the initiator END CONVERSATION on it's turn as a reaction of receiving the end dialog message from target. Another side effect of this pattern of messages (when target never sends any message back) is that the target endpoint doesn't get deleted, and that is the problem you're seeing. This is a known issue and will be addressed in a next release.
If you're asking about the reason for the 'An error occurred while receiving data: '64(error not found)', this is simply because the connection between the two machines is timing out due to innactivity. One side will time out first (the enterprise in this case) and close the connection, the other side simply reports the fact that the connection was closed by the peer.

Problem with remove files older then in backup
MSDE from another computer using Enterprise manager. I have created a
maintenance plan that backup the DB once a day. The problem is that in the
option to "remove files older then" - the combo box where the day/week/month
should be is empty so I can not set this option.
How can I fix it ?
Thanks for your time
ra294@.hotmail.comIn the end, a maintenance plan just generates a parameter list for
xp_sqlmaint. You can modify this yourself in the job that is created. For
details on the options have a look in BOL for "sqlmaint utility" e.g. the
switch for deleting backups is
-DelBkUps <time_period> where
<time_period> ::= number[minutes | hours | days | weeks | months]

a remote server?
I am trying to connect to one of our MS SQL 2000 servers via Enterprise
Manager through a firewall on the remote end. All attempts to register the
server with EM terminate with a Timeout.
Can anyone help with this issue?
tia,

The ability to start and stop services from EM probably use some other port (stuff needed for Windows
authentication, I guess). But a regular SQL Server login should be fine through a firewall having only those
ports open.
