problem with sqlserver 2005 express
I have database with atached datafile. when I am using Select command from
created table, there is not case sensitive in the result. I mean I have in
the table the row with value "Disp1" in col1, and when I am selecting with
filter Where col1="disp1" , I amd getting this one row where value is
"Disp1".
I saw in server explorer window, that connection have parameter Case
Sensitive, which value is False, but it is desabled and I can't change.
How to solve this problem.
Thanks
Collation is an attribute of the column in the table. A database has a default collation which is
applied if you don't specify a collation in the CREATE TABLE statement. Also, if you want a query to
be resolved with a different collation than the data is stored with, you can use COLLATE keyword in
the query.

Either change the collation of the column or specify the collation
explicitly in the WHERE clause. You should read about collations in the
documentation first so that you understand how they work and the
implications of mixed collations, the impact on indexing, etc.

ThanksUsing a case-sensitive collation such as Latin1_General_CS_AS for col1 when you create your table, or for the "=" comparison in your query should solve your problem. CS stands for "case sensitive" and AS for "Accent Sensitive." See
Working With Collations (ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/MS.SQLSVR.v9.en/udb9/html/61cdbb6b-3ca1-4d73-938b-22e4f06f75ea.htm) in SQL Server 2005 books online.

Problem with Sleep function in SSIS
Hi,
I have a script task in SSIS which uses a sleep command. sleep(600000) which waits for 10 minutes. This works fine when i execute the package through GUI. But when i execute the same with Commandline, it does not work. Is there some thing which I have not set. I have also tried the Windows API call for sleep still it behaves the same way.
Any help?
Thanks in advance

Using DBCC SHRINKFILE does not need to be carried out whilst in single user
mode, although it could affect the performance if it is being used. DBCC
SHRINKFILE will not shrink a file smaller than the space required to hold th
e
data. If you shrink a file too small then it will only grow again which will
affect performance (during this), the file may also end up being more
fragmented, therefore if you have the space it may be better to leave the
file at this size. Make sure that you are not using a percentage as the
growth amount.
Also check out the disc fragmentation of the underlying discs as this will
effect performance.

When I call contains command to search for english strings , it works very

these commands to find :
Select * from MyDB where Contains(FName, N' ^??? ' )

Hamid,
First of all, thank you for providing the @.@.version (SQL Server 2000 SP3 on
Windows 2000 Server SP4) information along with the language (Farsi -
Iranian / Persian) and an example of your CONTAINS queries as this is most
helpful in helping you solve this problem!
Unfortunately, Farsi is not one of the subset of SQL Server 2000 supported
languages that Full Text Search supports, see SQL Server 2000 Books Online
title "Column-Level Linguistic Analysis", Note that it states that you
should "Use neutral when a column contains data in multiple languages or in
an unsupported language". Most likely, you have the FName column's "Language
for Word Breaker" set to US English. Could you confirm this with your reply
via sp_help_fulltext_columns ?
Assuming that you have your FT-enable column (FName) "Language for Word
Breaker" set to US English, you should drop the FT Catalog and re-create it
with the "Language for Word Breaker" set to Neutral and then run a Full
Population and re-test your CONTAINS query.
Additionally, you might want to checkout the new "Microsoft Arabic
Word-Breaker (Arabic Search Engine) - Beta" at
http://www.microsoft.com/middleeast/...v/beta/search/ and download the
Installation Guide and the Microsoft Arabic Word-Breaker. Now, I am not a
linguist, and I do not know how close or far apart Farsi or Persian is from
Arabic, but I'd suggest that you test it and let this newsgroup know if you
find it effective in resolving your FTS issues with Farsi strings.
Hope that helps!

Problem with report manager find command
my users has encountered a strange problem using the find command after a
report has been run.
If you try to use the find command in the report manager to locate a string
that is in the last group on a page, it will report "The search text was not
found". The find command works fine for test in all other groups on the
report. If you export the report to pdf, the acrobat search function will
find the text. I have tested several of my reports they all seem to have the
same problem.
Has anyone else had this problem with the find command in the report
manager? Any idea how to fix it?Hi,
Welcome to use MSDN Managed Newsgroup Support.
To state the problem clearly, would you tell me how you are searching the
string in report manager?
Do you use the Ctrl-F to find a string in a report via browser? If so,
which browser and what version do you use?
The Search for Feature in the Report Manager Page can only search published
reports, folders, shared data sources, and resources.
Thank you for your patience and cooperations. Please let me know your
results with this so that I can provide further association. I look forward
your reply.

Here is the procedure I am using. First I am run the report in Internet
Explorer 6. I type the search string into the text box which appears between
the zoom factor (100%) and the word find. When I hover my mouse over the
text box a tool tip pops up and displays "find text". Finally, I click on
the word "Find".
Normally the report will jump to wherever the search string is first found
in the report, regardless of which page it appears on. As I stated earlier
if the search string appears in the last group on a page, for some reason it
will not be found.
I noticed today that the problem only seems to occur if the last group on
the page spans onto the next page. If the last group on the page finishes on
the page you can successfully find items in that group.

Thank you for update. I understood your concern is that you are trying to
search the string in a report with a html viewer and you can not find it if
the string in the last group. If I misunderstood your concern, please feel
free to point it out.
In the reporting service, this Search feature searches for content in the
report by typing a word or phrase that you want to find (the maximum value
length is 256 characters). The search is case-insensitive and begins at the
page or section that is currently selected. Only visible content is
included in a search operation. This search feature is based on javascript.
So I'd like to know if you use the Ctrl-F to search the string, will you
find it properly? Is this string visible or not?
Also you may want to insert a page break after the table to test.
Further, if you installed the Sample, you may check if the issue occurs on
¡"product catalog" sample report.
Thank you for your patience and cooperations. Please let me know your
results with this so that I can provide further association. I look forward

Thanks for you efforts.
To answer your question, the text is visible. If I use Ctrl-F, it does find
the text as long as I am currently on the page where the text appears. In my
experience, the find/next commands in the report manager will find a string
on the current page as well as all other pages (both before and after the
current page) except in the circumstances described in my earlier posts.
The problem I am having does occur in the Product Catalog sample report.
For example on page five, the last line of the report has product no. of
"BK-M38S-56". The find command will not find this product no.. If I use
Ctrl-F it will find the product no., as long as I am on page 5. In fact I
can not use the find/next commands to locate any product no. in the
"Mountain-400" section on page 5.
The sample reports are on my local machine. The earlier reports I tested
were on our application server. I am curious to know if you experience the
same problem on page 5 of the product catalog.
I tried adding a page break after the table in the Product Catalog sample
report. It did not make any difference.

Problem with PIVOT
I am currently trying to write a query that I can use in C# to produce a score table for MotorCycle races - as I know that using the PIVOT command you have to specify the column names.
I have 3 seperate tables - which I join to produce a table which I then try to rearrange with PIVOT as below.
SELECT Name,RaceName,Position FROM
(SELECT dbo.Rider.Name, dbo.Race.RaceName, dbo.Position.Position FROM
dbo.Rider INNER JOIN dbo.Position ON dbo.Rider.ID = dbo.Position.Rider_ID INNER JOIN dbo.Race ON dbo.Race.ID = dbo.Position.Race_ID) AS A
PIVOT(A.Name FOR A.RaceName IN ([Brands Hatch],[Silverstone])) AS P
When I try to run the query it says I have an error near FOR. I have taken the syntax from msdn and other sites.
Hopefully someone can help!!!!
Thanks!
PIVOT requires an aggregate function to be in there before the 'FOR' bit. So if you had MAX(A.Name), then you might get what you want.Rob

Problem with osql.exe -L
I'm facing a small problem. Whenever I execute osql.exe -L command it lists
all the server on the network except my local server instance (not default i
nstance) and other similar server instance names on the network.
Earlier it use to list all the server instance but all of a sudden stopped l
isting.
What can be the problem? Please help me to rectify this issue.
Thanks in adv.
Regards,
BGSOSQL -L uses the ODBC SQLBrowseConnect functionality. It's
not guaranteed to give a complete list due to broadcast
issues, network routers/subnet issues, instances may not
respond within the timeout period, etc. You can find issues
listed here:

Is ListAvailableSQLServers in SQL-DMO is also same as "osql -L" command?
Actually I'm trying to populate a ComboBox with list of all the SQL Servers
on the network and set the default to the Local Server (desired instance).
Can you suggest some other better mechanism which can be used to acheive the
same?
-BGS|||ListAvailableServers is also based on the ODBC function
SQLBrowseConnect. If you need a guaranteed list and are
running SQL 2000, you could register all SQL Servers in AD
and go through AD to list all of SQL Servers.

Actually I'm not using SQL 2k but MSDE installation. It is a product, I
can't ask the client to install SQL Server 2000.
That's the reason I'm packing the MSDE along with the application
installation package.

How can I ask the user of my product to register the SQL Server with the AD,
that looks odd.
